龍王在空 “The Dragons Are Still Aloft”

行者: 行 = xíng. 一步: 一 = yí before 步 (4th tone). 傍門法術: 傍 = páng (“heterodox”) — contrast 傍邊 bàng (“beside”). 算不得: 得 = de.

空中: 中 = zhōng. 還不敢: 還 = hái. 遽退 (jùtuì) “to withdraw in haste.”

總評 Commentary

Wukong cuts through the wrangling by raising the stakes: the arts on both sides are mere 傍門 (heterodox tricks), and the true proof lies elsewhere — the dragons themselves, still hovering unseen at his command. The graph 傍 here takes its páng reading (“heterodox,” as in 傍門左道), distinct from the bàng of 傍邊 (“at the side”). By revealing that the gods await his word, he sets up a test the immortals cannot fake.
