The Taste Betrayed
Line by line
Each of us drank a mouthful and tasted the flavour of it; just as we were about to lay hands on him and seize him, he got away.
下手擒拿 “to set to and seize.” 卻走了 “but he fled.”
The confession reaches its low point — the taste on the tongue confirming the trick — and its narrative purpose: the culprit escaped then, but sits before the throne now. The line pivots the grievance from the past into the present demand for reckoning.
