The cloud-gods obey as the wind-gods did, and the sky is not merely un-clouded but scoured brilliantly clear — an over-fulfilment of Wukong's order that turns the immortal's failure into a spectacle. The dazzling emptiness overhead is the visible verdict on the Daoist rite, and the cue for Bajie's renewed mockery.
