總評 Commentary

Wukong flatly contradicts the immortal — the gods are present, the Daoist's magic simply fails — and offers a public test in place of an excuse. The king, still even-handed enough to want the matter settled by result, sends him up. The contest thus passes cleanly to the pilgrims, and the altar, with the whole court watching, becomes the Tang Monk's.
