悄悄幹事 “Keep Quiet, I'll See to It”

Zhu Bajie muttered to himself, “This is bad, this is bad — this Daoist really does have the power.

作念 “to mutter to oneself.” 不好了: = before (3rd tone). 果然有本事 “really does have the skill.”

響了一下: = before (4th tone). 刮風 “the wind blows.”

Pilgrim said, “Brothers, keep quiet; the rest of you say nothing more to me, only guard our master well, and wait while I go and see to the business.”

行者: = xíng. 悄悄的 “quietly.” 只管護持 “just keep guarding.” 幹事去來 “go off to do the deed.”


總評 Commentary

Bajie's dismay measures how convincing the immortal's magic looks from below — and sets up the comic reversal, for the reader is about to learn that the wind is not the Daoist's at all. Wukong's terse instruction to hush and hold position marks his shift from courtroom advocate to covert operator: the contest will be won not on the altar but in the air above it.
