還在此間: 還 = hái, “still.” 冤家路兒窄: suffixal 兒 = er — the proverb “enemies meet on a narrow road” (there is no avoiding a reckoning).
那國王聞言發怒，欲誅四眾。
那国王闻言发怒，欲诛四众。
At these words the king flew into a rage and would have put the four of them to death.
Deictic 那國王: 那 = nà. 發怒 “to fly into a fury.” 欲誅四眾: 誅 (zhū) “to execute”; 四眾 “the four” (the pilgrim band).
The Daoist caps his indictment with a proverb and the king's anger boils over into a death sentence — the confrontation's first crisis. That the pilgrims will not simply be executed, but drawn instead into the contest of powers that fills the rest of the chapter, is the swerve the next batch will begin: Wukong turns a threatened killing into a public trial of Buddhist against Daoist magic.
