That king, muddled to begin with, having heard Pilgrim through, now could not make up his mind.
Deictic 那國王: 那 = nà. 本來昏亂 “confused from the first.” 說了一遍: 一 = yí before 遍 (4th tone). 決斷不定: 不 = bú before 定 (4th tone) — “could not decide.”
A single beat records the argument's effect: the king, never firm, is now genuinely at a loss. His indecision is the hinge on which the chapter turns from trial to trial-by-ordeal — for it is precisely this deadlock that the timely arrival of the drought-stricken elders will resolve, by offering a public test to settle the matter.
