憑你發落 “Deal With Him As You Will”

逐句解 Line by line

xíngzhěyòuxièleáoshùndào:「qiánkuīlìnglángguàijiùshī。」 xíngzhěyòuxièleáoshùndào:「qiánkuīlìnglángguàijiùshī。」

Pilgrim also thanked Ao Shun, saying, “The other day I was beholden to your noble son for binding the monster and rescuing my master.”

行者: = xíng. 虧令郎 “indebted to your worthy son.” 縛怪搭救 “bound the fiend and effected a rescue” — recalling an earlier chapter's events.

lóngwángdào:「háisuǒzàihǎizhōngwèigǎnshàn便biànzhèngqǐngshèngluò。」 lóngwángdào:「háisuǒzàihǎizhōngwèigǎnshàn便biànzhèngqǐngshèngluò。」

The Dragon King said, “That creature is still chained in the sea; I have not dared act on my own, and was just about to ask the Great Sage to dispose of him.”

Deictic 那廝: = (“that fellow”). 還鎖: = hái. 海中: = zhōng. 擅便 “to act on one's own authority.” 發落 “to dispose of, deal with.”

xíngzhědào:「píngzěnmechǔzhìleba xíngzhědào:「píngzěnmechǔzhìleba

Pilgrim said, “Deal with him however you please, and let that be that.

行者: = xíng. 處治: = chǔ (“to handle, deal with”). 了罷: = le, = ba (hortative).

jīnqiězhùgōng jīnqiězhùgōng

For now, just lend me one good turn.”

一功: = before (1st tone). 助我一功 “lend me a service.”


總評 Commentary

A brief thread ties this contest back into the larger journey: Ao Shun's son had earlier helped the pilgrims, and the captured monster still awaits judgment. Wukong's breezy “deal with him as you please” shows the offhand authority he now wields even over the Dragon Kings' internal affairs — authority he is about to turn on the rain-contest with a single raised staff.
