Turning his head, he saw a hall-guarding general, a precious sword slung at his waist, held fast by Pilgrim's body-fixing spell, dull as an idiot, mute as a stone, standing right there.

He stepped up, snatched away this precious sword, and mounting a cloud-head shot up into the void.

It so angered Sha the monk that he raged like thunder, and Zhu Eight Rules cried out at the top of his voice, blaming Pilgrim for being a hasty ape: "If you'd only spoken more slowly, wouldn't you have held him fast?

氣得: complement 得 = de. 急猴子: suffix 子 = zi; 些兒: suffix 兒 = er. 埋怨 = mán yuàn ("to grumble at").

Pilgrim laughed: "Brothers, don't raise a clamour.

Let's have that crown prince come down to bow to his father, and the consorts come out to bow to their husband," — then he chanted a spell again and released the body-fixing charm — "and have those many officers wake and return to bow to their king, so all may know he is the true emperor.

Deictic 那太子 / 那多官: 那 = nà; 太子子 = zǐ. 教那多官: causative 教 = jiào.

The fine Great Sage charged Eight Rules and Sha Monk: "Guard them well — sovereign and subject, father and son, and the consorts, together with my master."

父子: 子 = zǐ (the meaningful "son"). 好生保護 = "take good care to protect."

只zhǐ聽tīng說shuō聲shēng去qù，就jiù不bú見jiàn形xíng影yǐng。只zhǐ听tīng说shuō声shēng去qù，就jiù不bú见jiàn形xíng影yǐng。

At the mere word that he was off, he vanished, form and shadow gone.

只聽說聲去，就不見形影 = "at the word 'gone,' no trace of him remained."

總評 Commentary

The deposition breaks the impasse: unmasked to his face, the fiend panics — heart pounding "like a startled deer," red rising in his cheeks — and, weaponless, snatches a sword from a general still frozen in Wukong's spell and bolts into the sky. The comedy of the disciples' reaction is characteristic: Sha Monk rages, Bajie shrills recriminations at Wukong for being "a hasty ape" who scared the quarry off before it could be pinned. The blame is unfair — Wukong engineered the whole confrontation — but it is exactly the grumbling the reader expects of the party.

Wukong's calm reply turns the escape into stagecraft. Before giving chase he sets the recognition-scene in motion: he releases the frozen court and arranges for the crown prince to bow to his father, the consorts to their husband, the officials to their true king, so that "all may know he is the true emperor," and posts Bajie and Sha Monk to guard the restored king and his family. The passage thus does double work — it launches the sky-chase that fills the rest of the chapter, and it quietly completes the political half of the restoration on the ground, leaving only the fiend himself to be run down.
