逐句解 Line by line
The demon king laughed: ‘That bundle has nothing of value in it — no doubt it's some monk's tattered robe and old cap; carry it in, and unpick and wash it for patching-cloth.’
那包袱 nà (deictic). 無甚麼值錢之物 ‘nothing of value’: 甚 shén (甚麼 ‘what/any’). 破褊衫 ‘tattered robe (褊 biǎn)’, 舊帽子 (子 suffix). 背進來 ‘carry in on the back’: 背 read bēi (‘to carry on the back’, verb, not the bèi ‘back/recite’ default). 拆洗做補襯 ‘unpick, wash, make patching-cloth (襯 chèn)’. The demon's contempt seals the ruse.
One little imp did carry the bundle in on his back, not knowing it was the Pilgrim transformed.
一個小妖 (一 before 個 t4 → yí). 果將包袱背進 ‘did carry the bundle in’: 將 jiāng (disposal); 背 bēi (carry on back). 不知是行者變的 ‘not knowing it was the Pilgrim (行 xíng)’ (不 before 知 t1 → bù). The trap now works in reverse — the demon's own imp carries Wukong in.

The ruse succeeds completely. The demon, mistaking the bundle for a fleeing monk's worthless rags, orders it carried in for patching-cloth — and so his own imp bears the Great Sage across the threshold and tosses him down inside the gate. Wukong's quiet ‘good — this bundle has been carried in’ marks the turn: where the whole apparatus of fire and smoke drove him off, a shape-change and the demon's own carelessness have put him exactly where he needs to be.
